Black Man Found Hanging From Tree; Autopsy Indicates Suicide

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi coroner says autopsy results indicate suicide in the case of a black man found hanging from a tree.

Authorities say Frederick Jermaine Carter, who had a history of mental illness, was found Friday in a field near Greenwood.

Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said Tuesday the autopsy findings are consistent with what she saw.

Sanders said there's no validity to claims by Leflore County NAACP president Willie Perkins that Carter was slain.

Perkins claims it's unlikely Carter killed himself because he was found in a predominantly white area miles from home.

Perkins, a lawyer, also said photographs of the body raise concerns. Perkins said his doubts are based on his observation of pictures, not an independent expert's opinion.
