CHAMPAIGN - A 31-year-old man has been arrested for shooting a Champaign man in northwest Champaign early Tuesday.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said Lamar Plant, 31, was arrested Tuesday morning at a home in the 1100 block of Joanne Lane in Champaign in connection with the shooting of a 37-year-old man at the Freedom Oil gas station, 1202 N. Mattis Ave., C, that happened just before 4 a.m.
Plant is being held at the Champaign County jail on a preliminary charge of attempted murder.
The 37-year-old victim is being treated at Carle Foundation Hospital. No information is available about his condition.
Dunn said police were called to the gas station to a report that two men had gotten in a verbal argument and that multiple shots were fired.
Police learned that a man and woman fled the scene and the victim was also gone. He was located nearby in the 1200 block of Parkland Court.
Dunn said police received a tip that led to Plant's arrest.
