G.O.O.D. music signee, Pusha T, made a statement with his forceful lyrics on the track "My God," which leaked from his upcoming mixtape Fear of God. The mixtape is said to be released sometime this month and is highly anticipated. This song is one of the many that has proven his level of consistency and gives the hip-hop community something to look forward to.
Personally, when the track first came on, the way he attacked the beat instantly reminded me of Kanye West’s track “Dark Fantasy” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The second verse begins with “The second coming’s in the second verse/ the first coming’s still here, so I’ll need a hearse/ I got a voodoo doll, every time I pin (pen) the verse..”
Since the record has dropped, many fans have compared him to Jadakiss. Both artists are similar in a way that they both use their street driven lyrics to get their point across. However, when compared to other artists, I feel as though Pusha T has a one up when it comes to his wordplay. “It’s the new God flow, ain’t it?/ the last supper for you n*ggas, now repainted/ take position on the chessboard, rearrange it/ face to face with the truth, get reacquainted..” With bars like that, there’s no denying that he got off on that beat and if the rest of the mixtape is anything like this one song here, these other rappers better step their game up and do it quick. Though he’s one of many underrated artists, with the help of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music, he’ll undeniably get the exposure he needs.
