In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which Ferrell discussed his upcoming turn on The Office‘s season finale, the actor responded to an interview question asking whether he’d be stepping into the shoes being vacated by Steve Carell at the end of this season with a straighforward “Yes, I’m taking over.”
“My character’s name is Deangelo Vickers, he loves the American Southwest, and he’s just kind of in his own way going to step into Michael Scott’s shoes and try to fill them,” Ferrell went on. “I’m friends with Steve and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’ ”
Ferrell added that his role on The Office will amount to a “regular, full-time gig.”
However, other sources close to the show suggest that Ferrell was only joking, and that his US$20-million per film earnings would keep him from signing a full-time commitment to a network sitcom.
