The Champaign Police Department is currently investigating two aggravated batteries that occurred early Sunday mornign in the 500 block of S. Elm Street. At approximately 2:30 AM, officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a report of screaming sounds heard coming from one of the residences and cars racing down the street. Upon arrival, officers observed a large party with many subjects inside the house and back yard area. Witnesses began reporting that a fight had occurred inside the home and several people had been stabbed. Information indicates that the fight occurred after 31 y/o Brian Cromwell, of Champaign, was asked to leave the premises but refused. Witnesses says Cromwell grabbed a knife. As a result, a fight ensued and two males, ages 24 and 27, were cut with a knife during the altercation. Mr. Cromwell was also injured during the fight after being detained and battered by several witnesses. Both victims, also from Champaign, were transported to Carle and Provena Covenant hospitals for treatment. Mr. Cromwell was also transported to Carle Medical Center. All three subjects sustained non-life threatening injuries and were later released from the hospitals. Brian Cromwell was arrested and transported to the Champaign County Jail for the following: Aggravated Battery with a Knife, Criminal Trespass and Possession
