A Philadelphia police officer, 27, has been charged with raping a woman in his patrol car last month while working a late-night shift.
Keith Corley II was arrested Wednesday on charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, and related offenses.
Corley, assigned to West Philadelphia's 18th District, joined the department four years ago. Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has suspended him for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.
Members of the Police Department have been speculating about Corley's arrest since Aug. 11, when a woman reported the assault. The woman, 32, whose name has not been released, told police she was waiting for a bus at 52d and Market Streets around 3:30 a.m. when Corley offered to give her a ride home.
Instead, she told police, Corley drove her to nearby Cobbs Creek Parkway and assaulted her in the back of the patrol car. Afterward, she said, Corley dropped her off at a nearby SEPTA station. She reported the assault immediately.
